Frequently Asked Questions

About Method

Q: Where the bins are Method recycling bins made?

A: Our bins are made from recycled materials at AXIAM in Whanganui, New Zealand. If you'd like to learn more, here's a link to a blog about our team visit to discover the process behind our ethical manufacturing

Q: Do Method bins come in other sizes?

A: Method's recycling bins are available only in 60L. We do however offer precyclers, which are Desktop Recycling Accessories designed to provide short term storage at your desk for paper, recycling and waste.

Q: How many Method Recycling stations does my office need?

A: At Method we’re a strong believer in flexibility, catering to businesses big and small with adaptable and expandable waste-stream options. We usually suggest one Method recycling station per 30-50 employees, thus adhering to our activity-inspiring rule that every worker should be a 10 second walk from recycling bins.

Q: What is Open Plan Recycling?

A: Here’s a more detailed explanation of how it works, and how it might help your workspace.

Q: Where can I find Method bins displayed?

A: So far we’ve helped some great businesses and architects take a more considered approach to beautiful, visible recycling: University of Melbourne, DEXUS, IAG, Sydney Cricket Ground, Wellington Airport, University of Victoria, Wellington, TradeMe, and Jasmax, just to name a few.

Q: Can Method collect my waste?

A: No, but we’re happy to help link you with the best waste provider in your area.

Q: Which waste streams do I need?

A: The waste streams you need differ depending on where you live. Here are the different waste streams available in each country we are currently supplying. To find out exactly which you’ll require for your city, you’ll need to contact your local waste provider.

Installation

Q: Can I pay for an install?

A: For large orders, we can offer an install service with FIL (New Zealand) or Solid Shield (Australia). This process can take up to 2 minutes per bin so you may need to be prepared to have help if there is a large quantity.

Q: How do I set up my Method bins?

A: Here is a link to our demonstration video: https://vimeo.com/131854392

Sustainability

Q: Are your bins made of recycled material/what is the bin made from?

A: Method bins are made from a polypropylene, which is 100% virgin plastic that can be chipped down at the end of their life and turned into new Method bins. We pushed the boundaries of plastic with the design as we didn't want a ugly rim around the bin (which is usually there to provide strength to the bin) which is why we’ve created the interlocking bag retainer to provide strength/rigidity to the base.

Q: Is the packaging my goods arrive in recyclable or reusable?

A : Yes, the cardboard is 100% recyclable by most waste service providers across New Zealand & Australia but please the client will need to double check with them and place in the recycling cage in your waste room. The single use plastic liner can be used as your first bin liner or scrunched into a ball and taken to a soft plastics drop off bin at most large supermarkets (location specific).

Purchasing

Q: How do I purchase Method bins?

A: Please refer to our Purchase page for more information on partnering with Method.

Q: Can I buy lids separately?

A: Yes, you can. Please contact a member of our team for more information.

Q: How can I order more bin liners?

A: You can order more bin liners directly from our site - https://www.methodrecycling.com/liners. (not operational in Australia just yet).

Cleaning

Q: What's the best way to clean my Method bin?

A: Our bins are best cleaned with a cloth and spray. Our printing is resistant to chemicals and weathering, however we advise against alcohol-based solutions. We also do not advise washing the lids in a dishwasher. Our open top Method bins have been designed to be easily cleaned with curves to eliminate hard to reach areas. Our touch lids can get more dirty, so may require more regular rinsing under the tap.

Q: How I clean my customised vinyl adhesives?

A: Our vinyls are best cleaned with a cloth and spray, or a wipe.

Method’s Return Policy (Unused)

We are happy to discuss our products with you and offer our advice so you can choose the items that will best suit your requirements.  Please choose carefully –  if you do wish to return an item our returns policy lasts 10 business days on receipt of your order.  If 10 business days have gone by since your order was delivered, unfortunately we can’t offer you an exchange or refund.

Please note we charge a $20 (per 1-10 units) restocking fee to cover administration and warehouse costs.

Custom-made items and bin liners are exempt from being returned and not covered under this policy.

Should any failure to conform with this limited warranty appear to a product listed below during the applicable warranty period from the original date of purchase, Method shall, upon prompt written notice, repair or replace, at its option and costs, the affected part/s.

Customisation

Q: Can I change the lid colours?

A: Yes, if your order will be over 300 units.

Q: Can I change the lid graphics?

A: For smaller orders, we can provide custom vinyl adhesives for an extra cost to suit your requirements. For larger orders we can create a new screen to screen-print your lids, for which you'll need to pay the one off cost.  This takes 2 weeks to make and then we need to have blank lids in stock to screen, meaning this process can take up 6-8 weeks.

Q: Can I order customisable vinyl adhesives, and if so how should these be cleaned?

A: We can provide custom vinyl adhesives at an extra cost. The minimum order would be 8-10 vinyls, which are best cleaned with a cloth and spray, or a wipe.
