Westpac Business Growth Grant
The Westpac Business Growth Grant was founded in 2015 to help fledgling Kiwi SMEs reach their full potential, with the winner receiving a $40k cash prize and a further $10k to spend on advertising.
How has winning helped Method? “It’s allowed us to fully launch into Australia,” Steven says. “We used the money to hold stock and employ staff in Australia, to leverage the opportunity we already had there. It’s been a great success for us.”
A trip to Fiji
Hundreds of applicants apply each year, with this number then whittled down to just six. These lucky finalists each deliver a Dragon’s Den style pitch to industry experts before one victor is hand-picked to receive the growth grant. For their hard work, all six are rewarded with a trip to Fiji to take part in the Nurture Change Business Retreat.
“Fiji was amazing,” says Steven. “We got to meet some amazing other business owners and hear some amazing speakers, hearing their stories and trying to tap into their knowledge.”
Who are the finalists?
This year sees the following compete for Method’s title:
Rotorua Canopy Tours - a personalised adventure tourism outfit.
Onguard Group - the team behind a seismic tank system specifically designed to protect wine tanks and other liquid tanks from earthquake damage.
Hansa Products - an innovative family business based in Hamilton specialising in the design and manufacture of high quality wood & brush chippers.
MethSolutions - a nationwide leader in education and innovation on the issues of meth in New Zealand.
Dive! Tutukaka - New Zealand’s largest dive charter company.
EcoWare - providers of plant-based sustainable food packaging.
Does Steven have any advice for the final six before the judging this afternoon?
“Make sure you enjoy the moment, and use this opportunity to really learn how to tell your story in a captivating way!”
